Our last two days of the trip were really great. And also not freezing. I was supposed to meet up with some high school friends. One of them at the last minute had to cancel so we started to cancel the whole thing but my friend Hilary didn't get the message and we were already in route and were just going to take the kids to Chuck E Cheese nearby our original meeting place. Well, lo and behold, she saw us driving on the street and decided to follow me! Good thing and what a good friend to hang with me in Chuck E Cheese. Haven't seen her in probably 10 years and it was a good visit.
Then we dropped off our kids at our friends' the Thomases house. (Thank you Jen!!) The Thomases just moved to Utah last summer. They are good friends and we miss having them here in Texas. But they were sweet to keep the kids while Mike and I went to the Salt Lake Temple to do a live session. Neither of us had ever been in before, that is if you don't count the time I spent in a waiting room once when I as in 4th grade. So it was a neat experience.
Then back to the Thomases to get our kiddos. How about this ridiculous pine tree in their front yard? It was great to see them and get to visit for a while. Can you imagine this being the view from your front door?
Then we rushed back to Park City to make it to Gorgoza Park to go snow tubing before it closed. In spite of the fact that my toes were completely frozen by the end, it was super fun! Now that I can do!
Thursday morning we packed up to leave but before we headed out we had to play in the snow one last time. The kids had not yet gotten to make a snowman. We found this awesome empty lot blanketed in snow. It seemed perfect. Beautiful, powdery snow...which apparently makes a crappy snowman. OK it doesn't really make a snowman at all.
So they made snow angels...
Had snowball fights...
and then finally...a snowman! Making balls of snow was completely impossible because they would just fall apart and disintegrate, but we developed a strategy to build a mound of snow and then carve it out. So here is our powder snowman. We named him Hippie.
We said goodbye to the snow and were off to Temple Square one last time.
Missy, Brian, Reilly and Karson met us there and perfect timing too! We went to the visitors centers and it was so nice to show the kids everything in Temple Square that they always see in pictures.
The Christus statue...
Inside the Tabernacle, original home of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir...
Mackenzie, Kaitlyn, and Reilly holding up the temple!
Ashley I'm pretty sure actually made friends with this little boy pioneer statue that was the exact same size as her.
On top of the Church Headquarters building - view of the Utah State Capital.
Lastly, we headed over to the "new" Conference Center. That place was huge and amazing!
But while we were crossing the street to go in, we ran into more family friends the Rasmussens!
Then we were off for our tour. Inside the conference center...this place was so much bigger than I realized!
There's a whole other world on top, too!
View of the temple from on top of the building...
Fountains on top...
And one last look...
We said our goodbyes and then we were off to the airport! It was a LONG night getting home but we eventually made it. Changed planes in Sin City, ironically. Talk about two opposites! But seriously, it was a wonderful trip. So thankful that we can take trips like this with our family. And so great to be able to travel with our four kids. I remember when we couldn't go overnight anywhere with all 4. Boy how things can change! Hope they are making great memories. I know I am.
