Fiesta Texas, July 4th and the JW Marriott

This summer we took our second San Antonio vacation with the family. We went to the JW Marriott Resort for the 4th of July. We mostly stayed at the resort but did take the kids to Fiesta Texas (Six Flags). We were honestly worried that it would be hot and miserable, but we actually enjoyed our day there very much. We were in the shade a lot and got wet to keep cool. The crowds on July 3rd were nothing - we waited in very few lines so we had a really good day. The resort was beautiful but at least comparing it to Lost Pines we liked the set up of Lost Pines better. But still it was a fun time!

First stop was Fiesta Texas...

I think the best part was getting wet on the big boat ride. The kids loved getting drenched on the bridge, too!

We spent the 4th at the resort. They had some great tube slides.

And we took advantage of all the entertainment they could provide. Like Bingo...

Some rain came in later in the day. We were going to watch a movie by the pool but decided to go eat and go to an actual theater instead to see Earth to Echo. Kids enjoyed the movie and no point sticking around at the resort because they unfortunately didn't have fireworks. But it was perfect for a wet night. Here are the kids on the balcony right before we headed out to dinner. Oh, and we blow dried and straightened Kaitlyn's hair so she's happy showing off her new locks.

On the way home from the movie we could see fireworks all around. We were able to go back to our balcony and we could see about 6 different fireworks displays, so the kids were happy to see some fireworks after all, even if they were far away.

We spent another day being entertained at the resort (except many of the activities were for a fee - a bit chinchy I thought, at least for some of them). Kaitlyn and Reagan decorated intertubes...

And they played the Minute to Win It challenge. Kaitlyn came in 2nd place in the tournament, even though she ultimately held the most dice. Some kid outstacked her right before the buzzer even though he only held his for about a second. They gave her a consolation prize because she actually could hold more longer.

Mackenzie and I (ok really it was me) won the TV theme song guessing game. It was all old stuff but we were a team. Okay there weren't many participants either, but what can I say, I love my TV!

And s'mores are always a treat. Except Ashley burned hers so she needed a do-over. 

And that sums up our 4th of July getaway. It was nice to be somewhere else for the holiday instead of the same old-same old.
