Summer Camps and An Art Winner!

With swim team over we moved into the second part of the summer. The birthday week all 4 of my kids also got to go to "Kids College." The older girls have wanted to go for a few years but this was the first time the session worked with our schedule. I was actually able to get all 4 of them in classes that they wanted, for the same 2 hours each day for 2 weeks. It was awesome! But very short! Still, it was great to be able to get a few things and done. And they were happy.

The little girls both took different art and educational art classes.

Here are the art projects they did while there:

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn took basketball (my idea) and pottery. Mackenzie took tennis and master chef.

After Kids College was over, the little girls mainly stayed home with me while the big girls moved onto KidVenture day camp. I think they had a pretty good time overall. Kaitlyn went all out for 80's day:

What they loved most though about KidVenture was that they got to go off the diving boards at the Sienna Plantation pool, including a high dive! It was definitely the highlight of the camp and I was so glad they had the opportunity to experience that!

They had one last camp to attend. Mackenzie loves doing theater camp every year. This year she was in Sleeping Beauty. Her part was one of Maleficent's goons. Okay, she was less than excited about that when she found out her part, but the show must go on and it is what it is. It ended up being actually a pretty good part and she ultimately enjoyed it. And once I saw the play, I thought it was a good fit. The girls that played the fairies, Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty (who by the way her role is really not even that large) were very well-trained in theater and singing. You could tell so that made sense to me. Beyond those the goons were the next biggest part and they were funny and had a lot of dancing and such.

Doesn't she make a cute goon?

Kaitlyn in the meantime went to art camp again. Her love...her passion! These were her masterpieces of the week.

At the end of the summer, all the kids in art camp are allowed to pick one of their pieces to enter into the art show and contest. There are two age categories: 9 and under, and 10 and up. Each camp theme is also a separate category. Well, my mom took the painting down to the gallery while we were on vacation. We had to miss the art show, but when we came back to pick it up, we had the most fabulous news ever! Kaitlyn not only won her category (10 and up (and she is only 10) for animal theme), but she also won 1st place out of the entire art show! I predict that to be out of about 50-80 pieces. In addition to being the grand winner, she gets to go to art camp next summer for free!

She was absolutely ecstatic! She definitely has an art talent. So glad she has something she loves and is great at!
