The Watermelon Has Taken Over

So remember how we finally planted a garden? Well for us it's kind of like throwing darts at the wall and seeing what we get. Here we are planting the seeds back on mother's day.

At the far end of our garden box you can already see some sunflowers plants starting to grow that the kids had done before then.

And then they got a little bigger.

And then we had some corn and watermelon start sprouting up.

Then they both grew...

and they grew...

And then the watermelon took over! Wrapping itself around anything in its path! 

Too bad there's no fruit. It's getting a fungus. We have lots of bugs on the sunflowers too. They've wilted (though we've planted sunflowers so many times before and NEVER had flowers so a big improvement for us - we even have seeds). But...after doing some research on watermelon, we decided to pull up the whole thing.

But what is this?  Wha-laa! We have an ear of corn! Actually, we have 3 ears of corn!

Watch out pilgrims! You've got nothing on us!
