What’s Been Going On At Our House

The girls continue to make me laugh at all their silly words and shenanigans so I thought I'd share a few of them before they move on to new ones. Plus all the kids have had their funny or interesting moments lately so here goes:

Starting with Ashley:

Well, first of all she busted her lip last week. Apparently she was in the big girls' room and though one big sister was in there with her, she was NOT supervising. Just as I was calling for her to get out of the room I heard a giant thud and then the screaming. Ashley came out and slowly the blood started dripping everywhere. I wasn't entirely sure of what happened until that night when Mackenzie pointed me in the direction of the fall and I saw her teeth marks on the footboard!

None of this should really surprise me. She's the one who has more energy than the Energizer Bunny. A few days prior to that she stood out at the top of the stairs, hollered out "Hoppity! Hoppity!" and took a flying leap down about 4 steps! She jumped as far as she could jump without any thought as to what was going to happen to her when she landed. Luckily she landed okay though she nearly bashed her head into the wall. No fear for this child!

And now she's into screeching and screaming at the top of her lungs while we're all riding in the car and the rest of us are screaming at her to stop and we tell her she's hurting our ears. But she doesn't care. She thinks it's funny. Good times.

Things she says a lot:

Quoting Swiper the Fox "Oh, man!"

"Oh, lookey!" followed by a bunch of jibberish nobody can understand.

And my personal favorite. When she's doing something she likes, she says "I like it" followed by what IT is. In other words, if she's jumping around the house she'll look at me and say "I like it, jumping!" It's really funny.

Moving onto Reagan, Or Ray Ray as we sometimes call her:

For some reason she has decided she does not like my hair in a ponytail. She starts yelling "Out! Out!" when I wear it and she gets very upset. I guess wearing it down yet showing all my grease from non-showering on given days does looks prettier to her than it does up and fixed. Strange.

In Ashley's room there is a tiny attic door with a walk-in entry. Locked of course. But for some reason Reagan has decided that that is the door to MeMe's house. She says that every time she goes over to it. So MeMe lives in our attic now. Hmmm.

Reagan is also getting really obsessed with bugs, fuzz, and the word yucky. She thinks everything is a bug but most of the time it is actually fuzz. So she says "yucky bug!" Then I tell her it's fuzz. "Yucky fuzz!" So one day she saw some hot pink fuzz on the floor. I told her it was fuzz, not a bug. She said "Hi fuzz!" Then I blew on it so she thought it was alive or something. When it didn't jump up and bite her she looked at me with a big smile and said "Ooohhh, fuzz is NICE!" Yes, fuzz is generally pretty gentle and caring to us humans.

She is getting a bit bossy too. She chimes in with me when I am trying to get Kaitlyn to eat by saying "Kakyn – Eat!" And Kaitlyn in turn has taught her to say, when I bring the food to the table, "Gross!" Or "Gwoss!" Thanks Kaitlyn. Not happy about that one.

Ashley and Reagan both are into hollering out "Quiet!" to whoever needs it at the time. And they like pretending they are a "swimming fish" while they lay on their stomachs and flap their arms.

As for the big girls, we'll start with Kaitlyn.

Last week she had to do an All About Me poster for school. Of course we made a big deal over what a good job she did. She was telling my mom about it on the phone. My mom said "Wow! I bet it looks fabulous because you're such a good artist." Kaitlyn's response: "It is. In fact, I bet all the other kids when they see it are just going to stare at it, and be like, Wow." Yes, I'm sure the kids will be left speechless by my child prodigy and her poster!

Kaitlyn's also on a health kick. She often has the desire to be the strongest person in the world. She has a very competitive nature so to her this seems like a worthy goal. So in the past week she is often passing on junk food and other snacks for healthy foods. In addition, she has been working on doing push ups and then ran 100 laps around the island in the kitchen. I actually heard her count them all.

The big girls have started getting an allowance for doing certain things (which is working beautifully!) and Kaitlyn has decided to save all her money. Wanna know what she's saving it for? She wants to live in a big fancy house someday. Now, let me tell you, our house is nothing to sneeze at. We feel very blessed and live in a pretty good sized house. But it's no mansion. Well, she's set her sights on some mansions around here so she is starting to save now. Gotta give her credit for having big goals and discipline!

And lastly there's Mackenzie:

Mackenzie on the other hand has announced that she wants to live here with us. She says she will even be my maid, but only on the day the maid is supposed to come. She will not be the maid on any other day. Or, if the house down the street that has the same floor plan as ours still has a For Sale sign up when she's a grown up, she would like that one as well.

And last night she gave us some more drama. Out of nowhere bless her heart. In the bathtub she went into a meltdown over not wanting to go to 1st Grade. I was as sensitive as I could be and after 15 minutes of trying to console her and reminding her we're still in kindergarten for 6 more weeks, I got nowhere. Then after I put her to bed, she came downstairs with a weepy face (but a hint of a grin) and handed me a sheet of paper that said "Dear Mommy, I don't want to go to first grade." I gave her a brief pep talk and sent her back up. Two minutes later she was back with another sheet of paper and the same look. It said "Dear Mommy, I never want to leave you again." And no those weren't spelled correctly. I guess she was just needing some TLC last night which I happily gave her.

And this coming downstairs thing after I put her to bed is practically a nightly ritual. I put her to bed, then she comes down and makes a bed on the couch. Then sometime during the middle of the night, she moves herself into my room on the floor. I guess that's fine as long as it doesn't wake me up. That's our rule that they may or may not follow.

So, now that you've read way more about my life than you want to know, I guess that's it for now. When you've got 4 kids it takes a lot of space to say just a little bit about each of them. Wonder what things they'll come up with next!

  1. Oh, it makes me think about what my life will be in about a year and a half. I enjoyed reading this one a lot.

Lucy sounds like Mackenzie. She has been paranoid about getting baptized since she was 2. Not something they need to be worried about. I told her that she isn't nearly old enough yet and not to worry, but she still did, until she realized that it would be her daddy that would baptize her. Now she is fine with it. For as crazy and energetic as she is, she is the one who struggles with change and new places. I worry about when it comes to going to school.

  2. Reading your posts are like a glimpse into my own life! One of my big twins hates the idea of growing up as well! I also have one who's always getting hurt!

Your girls are such fun little people! I always enjoy reading about their personalities!

Aren't you in the Dallas area? A woman who's pregnant with her 2nd set of twins contacted me today via my blog and she's in the Dallas area.

  3. What ADORABLE girls!!!! Love that first picture of them upside down. So has the class recovered from the beauty of Kaitlyn's poster yet? ;) What a little cutie. Already preparing to be the stronget person in the world and live in a mansion. Hilarious!

  4. I made the terrible mistake of wiping the slide down before they go out on the play set a few times and now its an expectation and they get a heart attack every time a bug is in sight! It's all my fault!! I've switched strategies and told them when outside you are surrounded by bugs and I don't want to hear about every single one you see anymore. If you see an ant on the slide you don't have to run all the way back to the deck to come tell me about it!

  5. I love the picture of them on the couch; too cute!!

We should definitely try and get all the kids together. We would get more looks than either of us are used to! Maybe an outdoor park where no one would care about the noise? I have heard some great things about Old McDonald's Farm in Humble. Is there a place like that near Sugarland?

What are the chances that all 8 of the kids are going to be healthy on any one weekend? :)
