It's a Little Bit Eerie

This is actually not about Halloween.  One of my daughters is a "spirited" child.  That's the new word for what used to be called difficult.  Don't get me wrong.  She is also completely amazing and extremely gifted.  In many ways she is mature beyond her years.

The five main characteristics of a spirited child is that they are more intense, energetic, persistent, sensitive, and perceptive than most children.  Kaitlyn is all of these things, but the one I want to focus on is how perceptive she is.  Combine that with OCD behavior and a great talent for drawing and I get some amazing and eerily detailed pictures.

She draws all the time.  And makes lists all the time.  The detail is what almost freaks me out.  Here are some of her latest things she has done.  She whips stuff like this out many times a day.

This is our family that she drew while on vacation. Not tons of detail but still...

Here is what appears to be a freeway mixmaster.  Look closely at all the cars - each one with little intricate details.

This "sheet music" falls within her lists category.  She learned one song on the piano and was so excited she went and drew her music from memory.  Notice some have bars through the notes and some don't.  That is intentional and correct.

She drew this crazy shaky mouth the day her first tooth was loose.  It reads "I have a loose tooth. It can wiggle half of half an inch."

The first day Reagan woke up with a dry diaper Kaitlyn instantly went to work on making her a dry diaper chart.

Here on this microscopic refrigerator to do list is a list of the 12 months (in the wrong order though). Each drawing is about 1/3 an inch tall.

In addition to her many charts and lists and diagrams, she has many many majorly detailed drawings tucked away that I don't feel like dragging out but just know that there are many and sometimes the things she not only notices but can then translate onto paper just freak me out. This week she learned how to do shadows. If you look at the picture above, notice she has drawn a projector shining light onto her block letters which back up to a wall. The shadow changes angles as it goes up the wall.

Then she whipped this picture out in just a few minutes. It is Mackenzie in her Halloween costume with of course her shadow behind.  Freaky!!!!

I wish I had time to go dig up some more but this will have to do for now.  I meant to find her get ready for school list. And when we go on a trip or there's an exciting day ahead, she makes a list, puts everything in order and then draws it and then checks it off as we go.  Unfortunately, if anything doesn't go exactly according to schedule she gets very inflexible and upset.  But still....we'll just have to get her a good therapist one day to deal with her OCD.  Maybe we'll send her dad along with her since he seems to have it too.

But at least she has a positive way of expressing herself!
